Title: Identity's Fundamentality, Once Again
Date:
Time: 16:00 - 17:30

Is identity a fundamental notion? There are at least four reasons to  think so (Bueno [2014]): (1) identity is presupposed in every conceptual system; (2) identity is required to characterize individuals;  (3) identity cannot be defined, and (4) the intelligibility of quantification presupposes identity. In a recent paper, Krause and Arenhart [2015] challenged all of these claims. In this talk, I’ll discuss their complaints and provide a defense of the centrality (fundamentality) of identity.
