Everyone is cordially invited!<\/p>\n<p>Speaker:\u00a0<strong>Chenwei Shi <\/strong>(University of Amsterdam)<br \/>\nTitle:\u00a0<strong>Evidence Logic and Culprits for the Failure of \u00a0Epistemic Closure<br \/>\n<\/strong>Date and Time: Thursday, January 23, 2014,\u00a0<strong>15:30-17:30<br \/>\n<\/strong>Venue: Science Park 107, Room\u00a0<strong>F1.15<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nAbstract: Inspired by J. van Benthem and E. Pacuit&#8217;s paper\u00a0<em>Dynamic Logics of Evidence-Based Beliefs,<\/em> a new evidence logic is developed, in which a series of evidence-related concepts are defined and based on them the concept of evidence-based knowledge can be defined. In the first part of the talk, I will introduce this new evidence logic and in the second part of the talk I will make use of the newly defined concept of knowledge to discuss one problem in epistemology &#8212; the failure of epistemic closure.
