This has\u00a0led to the common but \u00a0often implicit assumption that the connectedness \u00a0of a\u00a0node\u00a0in \u00a0the network\u00a0is proportional\u00a0\u00a0to its dynamic importance.\u00a0 For example in\u00a0epidemic \u00a0research, high \u00a0degree nodes \u00a0or &#8220;super-spreaders&#8221; \u00a0are\u00a0associated \u00a0to\u00a0dominant \u00a0epidemic risk and \u00a0therefore deserve \u00a0special attention. Yet \u00a0prior\u00a0research shows that the shared universality in network characteristics \u00a0is not\u00a0shared in the dynamic or functional properties of many real-world systems.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In \u00a0this \u00a0talk I \u00a0will \u00a0explore \u00a0the \u00a0relation \u00a0between local \u00a0interactions \u00a0and<\/div>\n<div>macroscopic properties of \u00a0a system through the lens of \u00a0statistical physics and information theory.
