On 1 February 2024, postdoctoral researcher Andrew McIntyre presented the SOLARIS project to PhD students in Computer Science at the University of Bari as part of a course on the ethical acceptability of AI. The SOLARIS project was presented as an example of how the European Commission's Trustworthy AI guidelines are being practically applied and developed in European scientific projects with particular attention given to the project's 3 major case studies which focus on promoting AI for good. Following the presentation, Professor Antonio Carnevale hosted a broader philosophical discussion with researchers and students on the unprecedented implications of AI-generated media for European democracy and the potential policy interventions necessary to tackle the threats posed by AI-driven disinformation.
