Title: Logical approaches to information dynamics in social contexts
Date and Time: WEDNESDAY, February 27, 2013, 15:30-17:30
Venue: Science Park 107 (NEW ILLC LOCATION), Room F1.15
Abstract: This talk will contain very preliminary work and consist of two parts. In the first part, I will present general remarks on the task of modeling information dynamics is social contexts. I will explain what I mean by “social contexts” and “information dynamics” in such contexts and thereby pointing to some interesting key features that should guide the modeling process. These, I believe, can provide a new agenda for further developing Dynamic Epistemic Logic and its many relatives.
In the second part, I will present a very general logical approach to modeling assessments of evidence/information, which I take to be one key feature of information dynamics in social contexts. This part is joint work with Alexandru Baltag, Sonja Smets, and Zoé Christoff. This general framework can be exemplified as a logic for counting evidence, neighborhood models for evidence logics, and probabilistic models for beliefs, for instance. Finally, the framework will be used to model a special example of information dynamics in social contexts, namely, “informational cascades”.
