Title: Belief as Willingness to Bet
Abstract: I will discuss joint work with Jan van Eijck on modal logics of knowledge and belief where knowledge is probabilistic certainty and belief is probability exceeding a fixed probabilistic threshold c ≥ 0.5. The logic with c=0.5 is due to Lenzen and makes use of the well-known Kraft–Pratt–Seidenberg Theorem from measure theory. My coauthor and I show that this logic, which is sub-normal, is sound and complete with respect to a new neighborhood semantics that bears an exact relationship with the probabilistic semantics.
