Title: Experience and Rational Belief Change
Date and Time: Wednesday, March 12, 2014, 16:30-18:00
Venue: Science Park 107, Room F1.15
Abstract:
A belief change initiated by an experience can be seen as a two step procedure. First, the experience changes some of the beliefs of the agent. Then, the agent adapts her remaining beliefs accordingly. While there are normative accounts for the second step, the first step is often conceived  of as an arational purely causal procedure. The goal of this paper is to explore the possibility of providing a normative account for the first step as well. To do so, I will rely on the work of Hartry Field and show how Field’s proposal can be modified to defend it against two objections raised by Daniel Garber.
