Dear All,

We have the pleasure to invite you to attend the tutorial and ILLC-project on Coherence by Branden Fitelson in June.

Branden is a Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University and will visit the ILLC in the framework of the LogiCIC research project.

Please find a short description below. We plan about 2 to 3 meetings every week in June.
During the first week, Branden will give an overview of the different parts of his new book. These first sessions are planned on:

Tuesday 3 June: 11h-13h
Wednesday 4 June: 13h-15h
Thursday 5 June: 13h-15h

During the second week, a questions and answers session is planned on:

Tuesday 10 June: 13h-14h30

Short Description: This project revolves around the contemporary literature on (formal) coherence. Specifically, we will focus on recent applications of “epistemic utility theory” to the problem of grounding synchronic coherence requirements for full belief, comparative confidence, and numerical credence (viz., degree of belief), respectively. The course will be a mixture of introductory lectures by the instructor, presentations by students, and group discussion. The instructor will be distributing a draft book manuscript which will serve as the primary source for readings and exercises (secondary readings and background materials will be provided on the project webpage:  http://fitelson.org/coherence/).
